Clean Up Australia Day Sunday 7th March 2010 - Chelsea Street Reserve:
Well! We were back at our usual spot again this year – the environmental channel at the back of the beautiful Chelsea Street Reserve at Kippa Ring which is adjacent to the Hays Inlet Conservation Park, a real hidden gem.
The Chelsea Street Reserve is looking a real picture after the recent rains and we have to commend the Chelsea Street Bushcare Group and the Moreton Bay Regional Council for all their tireless efforts over the years in keeping this area so wonderful.
It is truly a joy to see and a symbol of what can be achieved through a little effort. Every year, our site along the environmental channel is improving. Our main concern is still the large amount of fast-food wrappers and plastic drink bottles. We are going to write to the Moreton Bay Regional Council to see if rubbish traps and be fitted to the drain under Anzac Avenue and the one from the commercial estate.
We know these drain traps are quite expensive to fit but we believe that they are so important as the channel flows to Saltwater Creek then out into Hays Inlet then out into the Moreton Bay Marine Park. We would like to thank all our volunteers for a great job and braving the heat – Ken, Irene, Tony, Coral, Anne, David, Jan, Gloria, James and Bob. We so appreciated all your efforts.
