“The Association”, “we”, “our”, “us” or “PRKCAI” refers to Pine Rivers Koala Care Association Inc.

1. Introduction

By accessing this website, signing up as a member, or volunteering with Pine Rivers Koala Care Association Inc., you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions, our Privacy Policy, and all relevant laws and regulations including but not limited to:

  • Associations Incorporation Act 1981 (Qld)
  • The Association’s Constitution / Model Rules
  • Applicable workplace health and safety laws
  • Applicable child safety and wildlife handling regulations

If you do not agree with these Terms & Conditions, please do not use our website, participate in our association or its events.

 

2. Purpose of the Association

Pine Rivers Koala Care Association Inc. is a Moreton Bay based not-for-profit organisation dedicated to:

  • Supporting the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of koalas and other native wildlife
  • Promoting conservation, education, and community involvement

 

3. Membership

You must be a paid member in order to volunteer with Pine Rivers Koala Care Association Inc.

Membership is available for either 12 months or 5 years, and is renewed on 1st July each year. Membership fees are decided by all current paid members at a General Meeting and are subject to change.

 

4. Eligibility for Membership

To apply for membership through this website, you must:

  1. Be aged 18 or over
  2. Provide accurate and complete personal details
  3. Agree to comply with the Association’s Model Rules and Code of Conduct
  4. Pay the applicable membership fee in full (non-refundable and non-transferable unless required by law)

The Executive Committee reserves the right to approve or reject any application in accordance with the Model Rules.

 

5. Membership Obligations

As a member, you agree to:

  • Uphold the values and objectives of the Association
  • Act respectfully towards volunteers, wildlife carers, and the public in accordance with Queensland Human Rights and Anti-discrimination Acts
  • Notify the Association of any changes to your contact details
  • Comply with safety procedures, confidentiality obligations, and relevant legislation
  • Not use Association property, resources, brand, or information for personal or commercial benefit without written approval

Membership may be suspended or cancelled in accordance with the Model Rules.

 

6. Membership Renewal

It is the responsibility of each member to renew their membership when it is due.

Members are not legally obligated to renew their membership, however, if not renewed they will cease to be a member and will be unable to continue to volunteer for Pine Rivers Koala Care Association Inc. in any capacity.

The website login ability of the member will also cease on expiration of membership and will be archived after a period of 12 months has lapsed.

A reminder email of upcoming renewals takes place 30 days prior and 10 days after membership renewals are due.

 

7. Member Participation in Wildlife Rescues/Bush Care/Other Outdoor Activities

Membership with PRKCAI begins when approved by the executive team. The association takes no responsibility for any injuries or damage that occurs before membership approval.

7.1 Member Requirements

All members must:

  • Follow directions given by authorised coordinators
  • Comply with Work Health and Safety regulations and wildlife-handling procedures
  • Immediately report injuries, risks, or incidents
  • Maintain confidentiality of any sensitive information

7.2 Member Safety

The Association is committed to providing a safe environment but cannot eliminate all risks inherent in wildlife rescue and volunteer activities. Members understand they participate at their own risk.

7.3 Acknowledgement of Risks and Obligations

I acknowledge that when I am participating in any activity of PRKCAI, I am doing so as a volunteer in all respects and, as such, I accept all responsibility for loss of property or bodily injury to myself, however it may occur. I acknowledge that my participation in this activity may expose me to hazards and risks that could lead to injury, illness or death or to loss of or damage to my property.

I am aware that I may be exposed to additional hazards and risks. I will make all reasonable effort to avoid or minimise these risks by only participating in activities within my abilities, and using equipment appropriate for the activity. I will notify the appropriate coordinator if I am taking any medication or have any physical, mental or other limitation that might affect my participation in the activity. I acknowledge that the payment of my membership or membership renewal will be deemed as full acceptance and understanding of the above.

 

8. Training, Licences & Compliance

Some activities—particularly wildlife handling, rescue, or transportation—may require additional:

  • Training
  • Permits or authorisations under Queensland wildlife laws
  • Compliance with RSPCA Queensland guidelines or DES (Department of Environment and Science) requirements

Members are responsible for ensuring they hold any necessary external permits.

 

9. Blue Card Requirements (Working With Children)

Pine Rivers Koala Care Association Inc. complies with Queensland’s Working with Children (Blue Card) laws, including the legislative changes effective from September 2025.

A valid Blue Card is required for any member who:

  • Engages in activities involving children or young people

  • Supervises children during Association events or programs

  • Participates in educational presentations delivered to schools or child-focused groups

  • Makes decisions that influence child-related activities within the Association

No person may commence child-related duties until their Blue Card has been issued and linked to PRKCAI.

9.1 Linking, Maintenance and Reporting Obligations

Individuals who require a Blue Card must:

  • Maintain a current Blue Card at all times.

  • Ensure their Blue Card is properly linked to Pine Rivers Koala Care Association Inc.

  • Notify both Blue Card Services and the Association immediately of any suspension, cancellation, expiry, or other “disclosable matter” they are legally required to report.

The Association may remove or reassign any individual from child-related duties if these requirements are not met.

9.2 Compliance and Record-Keeping

The Association will maintain independent internal Blue Card records as required by law and may request evidence of a current Blue Card at any time.
PRKCAI may restrict, suspend, or terminate a person’s involvement in child-related activities if they fail to comply with Blue Card legislation or if directed to do so by Blue Card Services.

 

10. Payments, Fees & Donations

Membership fees, donations, and payments for events or merchandise:

  • Are listed in Australian dollars (AUD)
  • Are generally non-refundable, except when required by Australian Consumer Law or the Associations Incorporation Act
  • May be processed through third-party payment providers, subject to their own terms and privacy policies

Receipts for donations may be issued upon request.

 

11. Website Use

Users agree not to:

  • Misuse the website or attempt to breach its security
  • Upload malicious software or harmful content
  • Post offensive, defamatory, or unlawful material
  • Use the website for commercial purposes without permission

We may suspend or restrict access for any misuse.

 

12. Privacy & Data Protection

The Association collects and stores personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and our Privacy Policy.

Collected data may include:

  • Membership details
  • Volunteer information
  • Payment records
  • Website usage data

Data is never sold or shared with third parties except where legally required or necessary for service delivery (e.g., payment processors).

 

13. Intellectual Property

All content on this website—including logos, images, text, and graphics—is the property of Pine Rivers Koala Care Association Inc. unless otherwise stated.

You may not reproduce or distribute this content without written permission.

 

14. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by Queensland law:

  • The Association is not liable for loss, injury, or damage arising from participation in volunteer activities
  • The Association is not liable for errors or interruptions to the website
  • Participation in wildlife rescue, transportation, and care involves inherent risks

Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you may have under Australian Consumer Law.

 

15. Termination

We may suspend or cancel:

  • Membership (according to the Model Rules)
  • Volunteer involvement
  • Website access

for breach of these Terms, safety concerns, or inappropriate conduct.
