National Eucalypt Day
Eucalypts sustain life in ingenious, irreplaceable ways.
Eucalypts support Australia’s biodiversity through food, shelter, water, climate control and more—often in ways that are invisible but vital, shaped by millions of years of co-evolution.
Held annually on 23 March, National Eucalypt Day aims to raise awareness of eucalypts and celebrate the important place that they hold in the hearts and lives of Australians.
The National Eucalypt Day program aims to meet the promotion, education and conservation objectives of Eucalypt Australia. What will be voted eucalypt of the year 2026?
2018 The inaugural Eucalypt of the Year was launched with the Eucalyptus camaldulensis, the fabulous River Red Gum taking the crown.
2019 The Eucalyptus pauciflora, the tenacious Snow Gum is crowned the second Eucalypt of the Year.
2021 The Sexy Gum, the Gimlet or Eucalyptus salubris took out the fourth Eucalypt of the Year.

2025 In the 8th annual Eucalypt of the Year, an iconic Australian destination was chosen synonymous with their gum trees. The Walpole Wilderness won by public vote, no surprise to those who’ve explored its diverse and inspiring landscapes—from giant Tingle and Karri forests to ancient Jarrah, Marri, and Red-flowering Gum woodlands!
