Cleanup Australia Day
01st March 2026
By Lynn Docchar
Pine Rivers Koala Care had members at two sites for cleaning up. One group was at the end of Grahams Road where Tilley the Koala acted was there again as supervisor. This site is done each year because Tilley was found down there a few years ago with a fishing lure stuck in her ear. After a few jokes about a new earring style, she was caught and went to the RSPCA to have it removed. Since then, Tilley hangs around in her favourite tree (she was there last year for cleanup day too). This year we found another 3 fish hooks, a couple of lures and a load of fishing line. PLEASE be careful when you go down there to fish !!!! (Unfortunately, the Martens family left before pictures of the gang and the bags of rubbish could be taken as they took their bags with them). We had 10 volunteers at this site.

The other group were at our regular weekly habitat weeding site at Rob Akers Reserve on Bells Pocket Road. Picking up rubbish, the group collected about 4 bags of general waste and a couple of bags of recyclables. A lot of people come down here to have their lunch in the park and unfortunately, a lot of the rubbish was centred around takeaway food cartons. There are council bins or take your rubbish with you PLEASE !!! There was another 7 volunteers at this site.
Thank you to everyone who came along and helped cleanup our habitat.
