Bundalong Working Bees April 2026
13th April 2026
Over the school holidays, Pine Rivers Koala Care held two working bees at the YMCA Bundalong Camp in Joyner, between 8am and 10am. The work currently underway at this site is being funded by a City of Moreton Bay Communities Activities Grant. These dates follow on from the planting carried out in February.
The first of these working bees, on 6th April, had 13 of us attend. For newcomers, Janet held a walkabout to show them the 2021/2022 planting and the progress made in 5yrs to the tree canopy and undergrowth. The native ground cover and Nodding Orchids are now prolific in the area. From there, they worked their way to the February 2026 planting site where they were shown various invasive species of plants such as Balsam Pear (Momordica charantia), Mile-A-Minute (Ipomoea cairica) and Snake Weed (Stachytarpheta australis). Tools and gloves provided, where needed, and they were set to work with the regular volunteers. Clearing around the new plants and watering to help them survive. Morning tea was supplied when we were finished.
The second working bee was held on 13th April. This involved planting another 100 plants along the back of the dam. Janet (Habitat Coordinator) and Graeme Ferguson (site manager) dug the holes in preparation for the day. This time, being a working day, there were 8 of us. Plants successfully in the ground and some weeding around the previous plantings and then a stop for morning tea. Manual watering was carried out, with the main concern at the moment being the lack of usual rain for this time of year.
