A new location, different approach. What a way to celebrate 10yrs of Pine Rivers Koala Care (PRKCAI) and our “Wild Koala Day”. Yes, a lot of the entertainment was similar, but the venue proved worthy of the shift. With the work going on around Youngs Crossing and Dayboro Rd, (our previous site), this venue was ideal.

Firstly, being undercover, the school basketball courts guaranteed to give shelter from any rain or hot sun. No plan B for the weather was required. Plenty of parking, with 200 spaces right next to the event and even more parking at the end of the sporting oval. Lots of seating around the perimeter of the pavilion saw people taking time out to have a coffee, cake or sausage with the crowds being there solely for our Wild Koala Day.

The school has a permanent BBQ on the corner of the pavilion, where they ran a sausage sizzle and drinks. Other school stalls consisted of crafts created by the pupils and the very popular 2nd hand book stall. Proceeds going towards further planting of their Koala Corridor and PRKCAI. Similarly, the other food and drink vendors are splitting their takings with PRKCAI, which hasn’t happened previously.

The 3 habitat stands were placed in outside gazebos where the plant giveaways were very popular. Thank you to SOWN (Save our Waterways Now) and Kumbartcho (City of Moreton Bay) for the donation of plants. Within the pavilion PRKCAI had raffles, merchandise and children’s games.

The stage was set for the scheduled entertainment, which was hugely popular!!! Ranger Stacey, D’Aguilar Wildlife, Geckoes Wildlife and RAWR (Reptiles Amphibians Wildlife Rescue), to name a few. A koala, a wombat, snakes, lizards, echidna, crocodile, possum..... What wasn’t there? Koala songs, book launch reading, Gum Leaf Project talk, along with a great variety of stalls, cakes, biscuits. Check out the gallery of pictures HERE. (More are probably coming).

Again, a big thank you to all our supporters who donated product, services or money to make this such a successful community event.
